Therapist Websites: How the web design process works




Here are the streamlined steps involved in getting you online.
  • Your action steps are highlighted in blue. Relief -- I'll handle the rest!
At any point in the process you can e-mail me to clarify things. Your package includes unlimited email support. I offer a free introductory phone consult and the package includes up to one hour of scheduled phone time after your purchase. In my experience, this is usually more than sufficient. If additional phone consultation time is required it's available at additional charge.

  1. Choose a template layout from the portfolio
    • Think of the layout as the blueprint or visual structure for your site.

      What you see is what you get: The visual layout of each site as represented in the portfolio is not modifiable (this keeps prices low), so choose carefully.

      For example, if a menu is vertical on the left, it cannot be made horizontal at the top of the page. If a particular template is not to your liking, choose one that is closer to your preferences.

    • If you want to change to a different template you can do so in the first 3 days. Beyond that, additional costs will be incurred.


  2. Purchase your package by selecting the Add to Cart button below the template you've selected in the portfolio.
    • Because of the rapid turnaround time and low price. payment is due in full at the outset of the process.
    • Payment is available by credit card through Paypal.
    • You do not have to have or login to a Paypal account to use your credit card through Paypal. Just click the Continue link on the left-hand side of the Paypal page, as seen below:



      A note about Paypal e-check payments: While you can choose to pay via e-check through Paypal, be aware that there will be a 5-7 day delay while the e-check is processing. If you want your site online faster, please use a credit card or ATM card through Paypal.

    • If you have any problems with Paypal please contact me to discuss alternative payment options.


  3. Provide complete details for your practice. This includes:
    • Your name as you want it displayed on the site
    • Your credentials
    • What you call yourself (e.g. psychotherapist, marriage and family therapist, licensed psychologist)
    • Your practice's complete physical address(es), phone and fax numbers
    • E-mail address for client messages to you (and whether you want it hidden or displayed)


  4. Decide on your site's color scheme. It can be the same as one you see in the portfolio, or we can adjust it in most cases.

  5. Decide on a photographic theme for your site. (A single unified theme across all pages is recommended)

  6. I will locate royalty-free professional stock photography images which correspond with your theme and fit your template

    If you wish to choose your own images this is possible but additional charges for consultation time and photo editing may apply depending on the complexity of the template. Please inquire in advance of making your template selection if it is important to you to select your own images.

  7. Decide on the names for your pages. You have a total of 12 menu items/pages. Additional pages beyond the 12 in your package may be purchased for 25.00 each if desired. Note: If you plan on having many more than 12 menu items a drop-down template like this one is recommended for organization's sake.

    Recommended standard pages for your package include:
    • Home / Welcome Page
    • Contact and Appointment Request (A contact form with spam prevention is included)
    • Location (We'll add a Google map here)
    • Fees, Payment & Insurance. Accept credit cards via Paypal (Paypal form setup included if desired)
    • About Me
    • Services

    Additional pages to complete the 12 might include:
    • Frequently Asked Questions
    • Links or Resources
    • Client Forms
    • Specialization 1 (e.g. Marriage Counseling/Couples Therapy or choose from drop-down list below)
    • Specialization 2 (e.g. Depression or choose from drop-down list below)
    • Specialization 3 (e.g. Eating Disorders or choose from drop-down list below)

  8. Your site's template will be set up in a temporary directory

  9. Provide a few photos of yourself and your office. This can be done at any time in the process. I can lift your photo(s) from other websites if you'll tell me where they are, or you can file attach them to an email.

    If your photos are not in digital (emailable) format you can usually get them scanned at a nearby Fedex Kinkos or other copy shop for a nominal fee.

  10. I will provide you with keyword and keyphrase research related to your chosen topics which you can weave into your text as you write to help make your web pages more findable in the search engines.

  11. Provide your web-ready text for each page to me. Please send each page's content in a separate email or Word document (1 email or .doc file per page).

  12. Your text will be added to the site and you'll have the opportunity to make adjustments

  13. Once you're satisfied, your website's domain ("dot com") will be set up on my server

  14. Each page will be search engine optimized with meta tags and submitted to major search engines Pages begin showing up within 7-21 days of submission.

  15. You're site is LIVE on the internet and ready to generate referrals!

  16. Inform all of your clients and colleagues and notify your e-mail group members, family and friends!

Frequently Asked Questions


Q: Is there a time limit on how long I can take to create my site?
A: From the date of purchase you have up to 90 days to provide me with the content and information needed to create your site. If you need more time please discuss this with me. I understand that sometimes life circumstances change and I will do my best to accomodate you.



Q: What is your refund policy?
You may request a full refund for up to 48 hours after purchase. After 48 hours, no refund will be issued.



Q: What if I need work done down on my site later after the website has been launched?

A: For work beyond your initial package, my webmaster fee is 60.00/hour with a 15-minute minimum. Because of my years of experience I work fast, which saves you money. I quote a flat rate fee and invoice you with payment due in advance. This means you will know what each job costs when you order the work. No surprises.

The vast majority of additional webmaster work I do is in the range of 15.00-25.00. If you just have a few small tweaks, you can save money by waiting till you have several items on your "to do" list and having them done all at once.



Content Management System: You can also save money by purchasing the Content Management System (CMS) add-on for an additional 99.00. Try it out by clicking here. It allows you to edit the most of the text on any page of your site at any time without further webmaster charges.


How to Buy



There are two ways to purchase your package:
  1. Go to the Portfolio and choose your template. Click the 'Add to Cart' button below your selection (you can opt to add-on the Content Management System there as well) and proceed to Paypal to make payment by ATM or credit card.
  2. Go to the Purchase page and scroll to the bottom. Make payment through Paypal (Credit Card/ATM/Echeck) and we'll iron out the details afterward.
